THINK BIG AND START SMALL
“The journey of a Thousand Miles Begins With A Step”.
To sharpen your talent and what you love doing, you must be willing to start with small things. Don’t be afraid to give your best to what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you much stronger.
If you do little things well, the big ones tend to take care of themselves. Great athletes pay attention to small details and practice them consistently.
Tiger Woods first gained national attention on a talk show when he beat the famed comedian Bob Hope (1903) in a “putting” Contest. The young boy was only three at that time, but was quickly hailed as a prodigy. Not long after that, Woods was featured on the popular TV show called “that’s incredible”. Turning pro at just 20. It took Woods just eight months to register his impact winning masters and PGA (Professional Gofers Association) events. Whatever is your calling, talent in life, it’s Important to start on a small scale. Doing this enables you to hone your talent until it becomes an unconscious competence. The only thing that start from the top is the grave.
Little acorns grow into big oaks. The principle of honing your talent is that you must start small.
Winning starts from beginning. The truth about the matter is that you must be ready to start little. I have never read from my Bible that, it is a sin to start little. John Mason says, “People who think they are too big to do little things are perhaps too little to do big things”. Every little thing is a seed. Start with what you have. Do not be afraid to start little.
Create big possibilities from small beginnings. Many people despite small beginnings. They prefer to start big, powerful and intimidating. But the wise writer of proverbs admonishes us not to despite the days of little beginning. Some successful talented stars believe that it is better to start small and grow along with your talent. Many successful Musicians, motivational speakers, Actors/Actresses, comedians etc. around us today started small.
My advice is that don’t wait for some “big” opportunity to show up. Go ahead and start something, for the Lord has promised that “though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase” (Job 8:7).
Bishop David Oyedepo said, “smallness is the sure foundation for greatness” Theodore Roosevelt said, “do what can, with what you have, right from where you are”. Edward Rowland Sill said “we must do the best we can with what we have”. Thinking of starting of business or launching your talent or passion with what you don’t have is satanic madness and leads to frustration.
A woman called Mary Kay started selling books in the 1930s and in 1963, Mary Kay cosmetics was born and most of us are using her products today. By 1996 her company retail sales hit two and half billion US dollars mark, and the company is still growing. There is a member of Salvation Ministries in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. He heard Pastor David Ibiyeomie Preached on wisdom for business exploit, and all he had was thirty naira (N30.00). he put the thirty naira, into buying materials for artwork, as he was talented in drawing. The business grew and blossomed and today he is making thousands of naira and is now sponsoring himself in the University. He now lives in a self rented flat with his siblings. You too can start with what you have from where you are and still make it.
So dare to dream big. Dream of all the wonderful things this world and life have to offer. Don’t just dream, write the plans down and paste it in a place where you can see everyday and break it down into daily, weekly, monthly and yearly plans and follow them up with actions.
